[ week two: mingle ]

MINGLE LOG
We're back, everybody! Fresh week, fresh house, fresh murder. It is indeed a fresh house as when people wake on Monday morning they'll see that — everything is fixed! The windows, the table, whatever property damage that was inflicted last week is all cleaned up and reset. There is no SOS on the roof anymore. None of that. Anyone who stayed up all night on Sunday will have seen the mannequins diligently cleaning and repairing the house during the course of the night, finished by dawn. Yay!

They've also opened a new room in the house. A cleaning room — there is a washing machine, dryer, and various cleaning supplies in the room. Mops and brooms and dustpans and swiffers and all sorts of things! There's even a basket for collecting dirty laundry too.

And then in the morning, they bring in a few things to note, dumping it all in the living room.
  • A assortment of feminine clothing — dresses, skirts, blouses, etc
  • Included in that pile of clothing are twenty-five sailor uniforms of various sizes
  • Make up! Quite a bit — enough to last the rest of the time
  • So many packs of underwear. You had underwear last week but like, this is better
  • A tablet with Candy Crush and Infinity Nikki on it. There is nothing else accessible on it. There's a sticky note on the cover that says FOR ECHINACEA
  • A gun with one bullet is on the coffee table
  • A spear is laid across the coffee table as well
That said, it doesn't seem like the food restocked. Huh...

PROPERTY DAMAGE | PRIVATE CONVERSATIONS

[ He nods because of course he is!! Duh!! Though he does narrow his eyes a little suspiciously at the question, he at least answers ]

Losing memories. Memories are one of the few things we Orokin hold sacrosanct. It is the entirety of the self.

[ Now granted this wasn’t too hard to guess based on how he reacted to the contracts, but hey ]

[No, it wasn't, and it's a pretty valid reply.]

We're not much without our memories and experiences. I get it, even if it wouldn't be the first thing I'd think of for myself.

Do the Orokin have special ways of preserving memory, if it's so culturally important?

We do, but it is... [ He trails off with a difficult expression and crosses his arms. ] Not what you likely mean by asking, I imagine.

[ haha are you ready for some INSANE LORE leon i bet not ]

We have a method for transferring consciousness, which is what gives us our immortality. The soul itself is what moves, and thus we can treat bodies more as fashion as the permanent shell into which you were born. With it, there is a way to preserve the memories of a soul, yes. The soul is put not into a body, but digitized instead. Cephalons, we call them.

[ He looks at Leon pointedly, but his expression is actually difficult to read. With what he shares next, it's hard to glean what Roathe thinks of it. ]

It is used punitively. When someone has knowledge worth keeping, but is a danger to the Empire, the Glassmaker turned them into Cephalons. Once their soul is digitized, it can be edited, after all. Any problematic parts can be removed as they are placed into service eternal.

[LORE GET. This is, once again, all very fantastical and sci-fi sounding, and well beyond Leon's understanding. But...

That last part sounds... unpleasant. Punitive, indeed. Leon can't quite parse what Roathe thinks of it, either, with how he explains it so straightforwardly.]

Didn't you say that memory is sacred, though? Isn't removing "problematic parts" still going against the concept?

[Like, personality, too, is formed by memory and experiences, isn't it?]

That it is.

[ But Roathe's expression still remains a difficult to read scowl... Yet he's clearly listening to and watching Leon's reaction closely. ]

But even in thousands of years and with immortality at our fingertips, humanity has not changed terribly much in character. There are always justifications to be offered for those that threaten the balance of power. That is why it is an execution reserved only for traitors to the Empire.

[Leon's not sure how Roathe wants him to respond, but it's a good thing he's a pretty straightforwardly honest guy. He doesn't see much need to cultivate a perfect response when it comes to a concept utterly alien to him. (no pun intended)]

Good to know some things always stay the same. [Sarcasm! Clearly he does NOT approve of these measures, yikes. But, more somberly-] Do you know someone that's happened to?

[ Roathe seems to have found an answer, since his expression relaxes with a huff of a laugh at the sarcasm, but he just continues on with the conversation. Whatever it was he was searching for, it doesn't seem like he's inclined to share his assessment. ]

Personally? No. And all the better for it, as it was perhaps our highest punishment. I have witnessed the process, though. I was sometimes required to attend tribunals where that was the end result. Simple bureaucracy and process, put to its fine, brutal point.

[ He folds his hands behind himself as he speaks, but his tail betrays some of his curiosity. ]

Why was that your question? Since there are doubtless many you could have asked.

[Did he answer "correctly?" It seems so, but either way, Leon would hope that most would feel the same way about what he's heard. He's glad, though, that no one close to Roathe has undergone such a process — even if it sounds disturbing to witness.

Leon blinks at the question, though.]

Why? Oh, just part of the game. Since you chose "truth", I wanted to choose something revealing, but not too thoughtless to ask. You seem like a confident guy, and you said yourself you've seen a lot of battle; thought it might be interesting to see what counts as a fear for you.

[ That answer seems to satisfy him, at least. He even laughs a little like he's surprised, though it's brief. ]

Hm. Then it's good I went with that answer, in a way. I thought it would be easier to understand than those of war, honestly. I imagine you have not seen an orbital strike, for example.

[ He says it like it's a joke... ]

[He scoffs, lips twisting.]

Nope. I've seen Tyrants and Lickers and giant mutated salamanders on the "battlefield", but an orbital strike would be a new one. And I'd prefer to keep it that way.
